Risky Business

An Inconvenient Truth - Interesting title for what seems like an interesting documentary featuring Al Gore, who for a while was touted ‘The Next President of United States’

Saw a review on telly about this film which is about global warming. Al Gore seems to have quite a grip over the issue and makes his arguments very strongly and convincingly.

What captured my attention though was not just the movie but the man himself. Never paid much attention to Mr Gore earlier but this movie review made me stand up and take notice. It is quite a drastic change of paths, from running for Whitehouse to being in Hollywood. We usually have people travelling the other way around so I think it was a risk he took.

I have always admired people who listen to their heart, follow their true calling and challenge themselves. For I know its not easy. When one is able to meet certain benchmarks in their life it would be quite daunting to make a shift and enter the world of unknown.

One can’t make it big, actually one can’t make it to anywhere and to anything without taking risks. No matter how calculated a risk you take, it is after all a risk. What you are willing to risk tells you what you value in life.

Thinking of all the significant events in history it only becomes more evident that ‘Great deeds are usually wrought at great risks’

What are you prepared to risk
Is it hope or going down a slope

What are you prepared to win
Some hearts or just some bucks

What are you prepared to lose
Some sleep in the night or knowing you did right

What are you prepared to find
Light at end of the tunnel or a treasure at rainbow’s end

Radhika,
As usual you bring up wonderful points for us all to consider. What are we willing to risk of ourselves to follow our hearts, our spirits, our passions, our essence? These are questions each one of us need to reflect on and challenge ourselves with.

It is wonderful to see a post from you.

Blessings to you!

WB girl!

As usual GREAT topic and superb write-up.

The risks I take are usually very close to my heart. It's my calling. If my instincts say something should be tried, I go by it. If it says I should keep away, I keep away from it. It's basically what u want to do and what u think will fit.

**‘Great deeds are usually wrought at great risks’

Spot on! If we dun take chances in life, will there ever be any fun? I dislike ppl who dun wanna try anything out just cos they fear of failing. I say TRY..then only u'll know whether u can or cannot. B4 that u will never know. Even if u fail, atleats u tried.

Keshi.

Excellent post, and great writing, very interestingly said, about Gore, you made me remember that I did vote for him. At the time I was less of an environmentalist, I have since, thanks in part to people like you, and blogging, increased my appreciation and even advocacy of it. In short, I now have a better appreciation of Gore, I might even see the movie, again, thanks to you!

You are an inspiring commentor as well as poster, a voice to be looked forward to, glad to hear from you always. Be as critical as you feel, be yourself, you are valid and you will be considered always worthy of attention and one to learn from, even from an old man like myself.

I hope your job and schooling endeavors work out without too much pain, without too much sacrifice, without too much disruption in your life. But like you said in your fine little poem, you have to make the leap where you see fit, and take the risk, there are always risks to progressive moves. Take care of yourself, be yourself, and much love to you, Radhika, Dodi.

Some people don't enjoy their lives because they are not taking enough risks or are taking too many!
Radhika,I am a risk-taker but I have been a risk-avoider, as well.Me started shrimp culture immediately after my engineering gradn..Taken risk to mint money..but when virus got affected deliberately wound up the business and changed my field to my original engg profession..Like dint wanna take further risk..hehe..
And well,One of my friends has been miserable in his job. He has great talents and options but will not take the risk to change. Not making a decision to risk has drained his energy, his motivation-and has cost him dearly..And some people're always willing to take risks whatever the outcomes may be like my dad..Sort of risk addiction..Hmmmm..i think there's a movie with a tagline,"risk addiction"...haha..
Btw how's u buddy? Taken a very long gap to post this one..Seems busy..

take care

@Keshi...my darling friend
I go by my instincts too but I am no dare devil. I mean I do brave and take chances but then I worry and get scared. But I do take risks :-) Have taken some big ones so far, looking back I feel now how big risks were and shivers run my spine when I think about what could have happened if they didn't go according to the plans.
Nevertheless I will go where my heart wants me to go

Royala Business, GD I have not heard of anyone making money in it, only heard of people losing out. :-( sorry about that but I am glad you seem happy where you are.
I have taken few risks too actually. Got married very early when neither of us were settled,moved/moving careers. You know I actually worked with a telugu TV channel for a while as well, and while leaving it did some anchoring too in Telugu (Language which I can barely speak and can't read and write)It was fun!!!
And about my gap, yeah I am taking some chances now as well, hope they go through fine though. I have enrolled myself for a masters here in UK. So I have/am busy with loads of things right now.But I hope to be regular now

I agree we need to take risks. But having taken some myself, some turned out good, some turned out bad. But all of these experiences make you wiser.
Though I would say one shouldn't make rash decisions and take risks, one should try and make contingency plans and then go ahead. Thats the lesson I learnt
